Lavenders blue dilly dilly...

Last week i was lucky enough to spend time with my family in a villa in southern france. The weather was glorious, the villa was pure rustic french charm and the garden an absolute joy. It was like a week in paradise and one of my first thoughts when i saw the place was "This would be a magical place to get married!"

One of the loveliest parts of the garden was the paths lined with lavender bushes. The buzz of insects, the sweet smell and the beautiful purple hue was quite transfixing. I have always loved lavender and its relaxing aroma. So calming, it evokes such a traditional sense of the countryside and the simple joys of the natural world around us.

I think the colour of lavender, especially the grey/lavender hue is beautiful for a wedding. It is very classy and sophisticated and calm. It works best against a simple dress design and wedding theme. A bunch of lavender tied with a pretty bow is so simplistic and traditional and works as a beautiful bouquet for bridesmaids, and can be displayed in so many ways throughout the wedding day.

I love these wreaths in different shapes, with ribbon, string or rafia to tie.

If you want to take the lavender theme even further then this cake is definitely one way of carrying it through!

A few things i like....

Now I know why people say that it's important to find topics of conversation that don’t revolve around weddings when you are engaged. I always thought “Well, of course you will talk about normal things” but no, its true, it definitely dictates conversation!

So I will not bore you lovely readers with the nitty gritty, just indulge in some of the prettier, more enjoyable aspects of wedding planning like flowers, decoration, dresses and cakes!

Here are some of my favourite finds so far....

I think i might have featured this sort of bouquet before :P i just adore these tones of cream and green, its so fresh!

These pretty mint green pumps are delighful, with lace and pearl detail - from Etsy.com

Loving this natural, elegant, soft look....beautiful.

So there are a few things i have been looking at. I will hopefully bring you a collection of the looks i am considering for my wedding, as well as some other posts with different theme ideas to suit different tastes.

As i am hoping to create a lot of the things for my wedding myself i want to look more closely at handmade weddings and share some great ideas with you. There really is so much you can do your self if you have the time and resources, but it doesn't have to cost much. So look out for more posts on that coming soon.

Bye for now,

Words on engagement....

I love quotes, and thought i would have a look to see what great literary minds thought on the subject of engagement. Here are a few i rather liked....

Love one another and you will be happy.  It's as simple and as difficult as that.  ~Michael Leunig

Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.  ~Emily Brontë

It's so great to find that one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.  ~Rita Rudner

And she lived happily ever after.....

I do believe in the theory that if you think about something for long enough, it will appear or happen in your life. Having spent the past few months thinking a lot about weddings and marriage with the idea of starting up a business within this area, i now find myself in the wonderful, and exciting position of organising my own wedding!!!!!

Yes, I got engaged!!!

And here's the ring to prove it!!

My wonderful fiance proposed on my birthday two weeks ago at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. We had a lovely picnic and champagne and then the moment he had been planning unfolded as he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. It was the most romantic and wonderful moment. I am a very lucky girl!

So now i will be even more obsessed by weddings and ideas and all things beautiful and lovely!!! I will try not to go too over the top, but it gives me such an excuse to seek out all things wedding related, and share them with you.

I hope to bring you ideas that are not only suitable for weddings, but other occasions, or even just things that brighten up your life because they are so beautiful, cute, must-have items and wonderful inspiration. It's going to be varied, so stay with me on this one, i think its going to be a lot of fun!!!!

Oh and here's a pic of me .......Cheers!!!!

Bye for now....xx

Spring is in the air and all around is green

http://pinterest.com/source/weddings.theknot.com/

Spring is well and truly here. Greens of every shade are blooming and blossoming everywhere. Wildlife is abundant, the birds are frantically feeding their young, and there is a sense of new life, excitement and fresh, pure life all around.

I apologise for the absence of late. Suddenly life got vey busy and i wanted to really think about what my next post would be. I have spent some of this glorious weather we have been experiencing down by the river. The water was as clear as crystal, the river banks bursting with green leaf, cow parsley and bright yellow buttercups. The over hanging bows of the willow tree gently caught in the flow of the water. An idyllic setting and so inspiring and fresh and brimming with life.

Cow Parsley

It got me thinking about spring weddings, on gorgeous blue sky days. I love the shades of green at this time of year and think the leafy, apple greens and sage create such a beautiful, gentle calm colour sceme. Combined with simple floral arrangements of wild flowers such as cow parsley and daisies, adding freesias, roses, stock, and sweet pea.

I love costume and textiles and there is nothing as romantic, as feminine and as stylish and sexy as lace. The delicacy, quality, softness and intricate design makes it irresistible for weddings. It looks stunning as part of the wedding dress ( just look at the dress Kate Middleton wore for her wedding ) but it also works well in other areas of the wedding.

I love these jam jars wrapped with lace. You can create gorgeous corsages with lace by gathering one edge of a strip of lace to create a circle, building up different sized layers and adding a vintage jewel or brooch to the centre.

This beautiful parasol is ideal for keeping the warm spring sun from your face. It has such a romantic feel about it, vintage and elegant. You just want to twirl it around in your hands!

Lace doesn't just have to come in fabric form. These equisite lace cookies would make beautiful and sweet favours for guests. How pretty they would look on a vintage china plate or arranged in a tea cup for afternoon tea.

And finally, how could i not mention bunting. I love bunting - its so vintage and pretty, simple yet so appealing and an instant, easy and in-expensive way to decorate a marque, a hall or even mini bunting on a cake. This bunting caught my eye, with its lacy look. Try using dollies to create this affect.

Sea Side Rocks

There is something so uplifting and healing about being outdoors and breathing in the fresh air whilst surrounded by nature. I love nothing more than being outside when its sunny or even a bit rainy, especially if it's at the beach. And nothing better than fresh sea air! I also find that whenever i'm at the beach, there are always plenty of photo opportunities.

I have been learning how to use my boyfriend Andy's camera and loved the way that these two pictures can have very different effects on the colour and tone just depending on the setting.

The shore line was covered in shells, all different colours and so many textures. The variety is amazing. I love finding the twisted pieces of dried-out drift wood.
I have always wondered what it would be like to put a message in a bottle and throw it into the sea. Where would it end up? Who would find it? What would you write in the message. One day i will do it...

And this is Andy......I love black and white pictures and even just taking a picture sitting in our car looks cool! You wouldn't get that with a colour photo.

Moody skies, heavy rain showers and shafts of light. A perfect photography day.

Pink petal confetti...

When i was a little girl i used to love collecting the cherry blossom petals that would cover the entire front lawn of our home in a beautiful layer of pink. I would place the petals on a tray and put them in the airing cupboard to dry. One day i wanted to use that blossom as confetti. One day i hope to do so.

Pink cherry blossom outside my new home

So here is Cherry Blossom Days, inspired by my childhood and the dreams of a little girl one day having her pink petal confetti. I want to share with you my thoughts, ideas and inspiration about life, loves, and how to bring a little magic into your world whether it be for a special day like your wedding, or whether it just be for the purest and most simplest pleasure of looking a little deeper into the world and being delighted by its wonder.

There is something very humbling and gratifying about noticing things in your day to day world with a little more detail. Whether it be the sound of the birds, the droplets of water collecting on a leaf, the ever changing hues of the stormy skies above. We often go about our lives with our heads down and our collar turned up, getting from one place to the next and never really noticing whats really going on around us. I urge you to take notice of one thing every day. Be present in that moment and listen, look, feel, see whats really there.

I have always loved being creative, through sewing, art, writing and crafting. I cherish books and love nothing more than snuggling down with a cup of tea, a blanket and a great read, filling me with ideas, inspiration and excitement. I suppose it would be a very fair comment to say that i am rather a traditionalist at heart. Going ahead with this blog has been a bit of a steep learning curve as i am the least 'techy' person i know. However, it became apparent to me since discovering the world of blogging and being captivated by the things people were sharing either through words or pictures, that i could express my own creativity and values out into a world where there were bound to be people who shared the same ilk.

I decided that i wanted to have a focus on special days and specifically weddings as this is the area that i am hoping to branch out into. Above all i want to be able to connect with like minded individuals and share great ideas, comments, words, pictures and what ever else is out there that inspires me and you.

I hope that this site becomes a place where you can indulge in life's inspirations, whether you are getting married or not, take away thoughts and ideas, and sit around with me, drinking tea, dreaming up wonderful magical wedding ideas.

Any girl can dream, so why not do it here!!!

My first tentative steps into the blogosphere....

This is it, I have made it onto the page and hopefully it will prove to be as happy a ride as i have imagined and anticipated it to be.

This world is rather new to me, but i hope that by creating Cherry Blossom Days that i can share with you the things i notice in my day to day that inspire me and which i consider to be beautiful and enchanting. I have a lot to say in my first proper blog entry so i will return very soon once i have teased it into a meaningful story for you to read.

Bye for now,
